In the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism a great emphasis is placed on meditation practice. The tradition of three year meditation retreats has been practiced since centuries. Originally practitioners meditated alone in solitary mountain caves. Later, a new tradition of meditating in groups, in special retreat centres called drubkhang, was established. A practitioner who has completed the rigorous three year retreat is awarded with the title Lama.
The drubkhang in the Karma Kamtsang Centre in Grabnik is the first three year retreat centre in Poland. It operates under the auspices of the Rinpoches of the Benchen Monastery: His Eminence Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche and Venerable Tenga Rinpoche. The first group of retreatants entered the drubkhang on 7th September 2009. Both Rinpoches have appointed Lama Rinchen their teacher.
All retreatants complete the same essential Kagyu practices including yidam meditations (i.e. Dorje Phagmo, Khorlo Demchok) and the Six Dharmas of Naropa (i.e. tummo –generating the inner heat or milam – dream yoga).
Supporting the efforts of the retreatants is a very noble action accumulating a lot of merit. The great Tibetan yogin Milarepa wrote:
The great yogin meditates in a rocky cave,
And benefactors bring him food.
These two interacting lead them together toward Enlightenment.
And the essence of this interaction lies in sharing merits.
If you wish to support the drubkhang and help people meditating there, you can make donations for the retreat centre.
