Khenpo Karma Jinpa Tharchin

Khenpo Karma Jinpa Tharchin was born in 1987 in the Manang region of Nepal. In 2000, he became a monk at Benchen Monastery in Kathmandu, where he studied reading, writing, and all the rituals of the Karma Kagyu tradition.
He received both levels of monastic ordination – Getsul and Gelong – from Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche. In 2007, he began studying Buddhist philosophy, logic, and Buddhist sciences at the Shedra in Pharping under the guidance of Drubwang Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche. After more than 10 years of intensive study, he was awarded the title of Khenpo in January 2018. Since then, he has been teaching young monks.
Khenpo Karma Jinpa Tharchin will give teachings based on The Jewel Ornament of Liberation by Gampopa Sonam Rinchen. Khenpo will teach exclusively on the chapter on Prajnaparamita, the Perfection of Wisdom.

Gampopa once said:
“For anyone who wishes to meet me, studying The Jewel Ornament of Liberation is the same as meeting me in person.”

Gampopa (1079 – 1153), also known as Dakpo Lharje, was one of the founding fathers of the Kagyu tradition. Originally a trained physician, after losing his wife and children in an epidemic, he turned to spiritual life. Then, he became a monk devoted to the path of liberation. After mastering the teachings and practices of the Kadampa tradition, he met the great yogi Milarepa, from whom he received all Kagyu teachings, including instructions on the Six Dharmas of Naropa, Mahamudra, and an introduction to the nature of mind. Through intensive meditation practice under Milarepa’s guidance, Gampopa fully realised the nature of the mind.

Later, Gampopa founded a monastery in Dakpo, where he widely taught Mahamudra. His students spread these teachings throughout Tibet and established the main Kagyu lineages.
Gampopa’s teachings combine a systematic presentation of the path found in the sutras with direct meditative instructions of the Mahamudra tradition. His writings remain among the most important texts of Tibetan Buddhism to this day.
